- Today, the fire service lays to rest a true hero. There is no greater sacrifice that a man can make on this earth, than to lay down his life for another man. On Wednesday night, April 24, Gene Kirchner made this sacrifice. For 8 days afterwards, Gene clung to life at Shock Trauma. Unfortunately, Gene succumbed to his injuries. - On Saturday, May 4th, units and personnel from Arcadia Volunteers participated in "May Day" at Fifth District Elementary School. Kids from throughout the area participated in the family-fun day. Arcadia set up Engine 434 for display, and also set up a display of the bunker gear used by firefighters in fires.
